Prince Harry’s book is out tomorrow, January 10, but naturally the entire thing has leaked already. And according to the Daily Mail, Harry chats about this one awk time he and Meghan Markle visited Prince William and Kate Middleton at their Kensington Palace apartment—which is more like a giant mansion.
“The wallpaper, the ceiling trim, the walnut bookshelves filled with volumes of peaceful colors, priceless works of art,” Harry recalls. “Magnificent. Like a museum.” He goes on to add that he and Meghan were feeling slightly embarrassed over their IKEA furniture, saying, “We congratulated them on the renovation without holding back the compliments while feeling embarrassed of our IKEA lamps and the secondhand sofa we’d recently bought on sale with Meg’s credit card on Sofa.com.”
Don’t worry, we have interior pics of Kate and Wills’s fabulous home—which was photographed during a visit with the Obamas:
Meanwhile, here’s Harry at home in Nott Cott, which is on the Kensington Palace grounds and where Prince William and Kate Middleton also previously lived:
Back in 2020, royal author Christopher Warwick said that Kate and William’s home “has 20 rooms from the basement to the attic” and “it is not a small house.”
“All of these royal residences at Kensington Palace are called apartments, which of course makes people immediately think they are flats like the American term for an apartment,” he explained. “They are not. If you think of Kensington Place, in a way, it is built around three courtyards…if you kind of think of them as being these wonderful red brick terrace houses, because they are all joined but separate houses.”
Wills and Kate’s “apartment” is four stories and has five “reception rooms,” nine “staff bedrooms,” an elevator, a gym, luggage rooms, and multiple drawing rooms. These days, though, they spend most of their time at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, which is a four-bedroom home.
Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan are living in a Montecito mansion worth a reported ~$30 million. According to The Sun, the Sussexes’ home was purchased for $14.6 million in June 2020 and has appreciated in value by $14.9 million (or £12 million) since. Not sure where their sofas are from, but seems pretty nice!
