Playful, Meandering Gardens Are the Star at This Landscape Designer’s Tranquil Hamptons Home

Listing of the Day

Location: East Hampton, New York

Price: $3.5 million

This newly renovated, shingle-style home in the affluent New York beachtown East Hampton is a tranquil haven with lush, meandering gardens created by its longtime owner and landscape designer Kevin Keyser.

“The gardens have been a labor of love. They have evolved over my 17 years of ownership, and… [they are] never truly finished. I feel great satisfaction over how the planting of trees, shrubs and gardens have developed,” said Mr. Keyser, who owns the Hampton Silverleaf Landscaping company.

The timber house, built in 1958, was renovated over three years and includes yoga and art studios. It is embedded in gardens that have a contrasting color scheme with rich hues and clever layering. They include winding paths and a profusion of purple alliums that float above fountain-like plants.

The gardens are full of contrasting foliage and a mix of colors.

The gut-renovated house, less than five miles from local beaches, now has smart-home technology and an outdoor saltwater pool. It revolves around a bright, lofted kitchen with an 18-foot ceiling, and an open staircase that hugs the back wall. It has two levels of wraparound windows and experiences the sun from the time it rises to the time it sets, Mr. Keyser said. The property has gone into contract since Mansion Global spoke with Mr. Keyser.

Throughout the two-story house, natural light streams into rooms through many timber-framed windows and interior glazed doors. It has a cozy living room with an open fireplace with an adjoining, glass-enclosed “four seasons” room, with a picture window and garden views.

Back in the gardens, Mr. Keyser’s design creates peaceful privacy with 20-foot evergreens surrounding the property. It incorporates courtyards, sunny and shady spots, a timber-framed pergola and a row of colorful flowering trees beside the pool. Its beauty continues at night with outdoor lighting.

The 2,616-square-foot house has four bedrooms (a ground-floor primary and three others on the first story), three and a half bathrooms, a study, an open-plan dining room and sitting room with a fireplace, and a “four seasons” room, with a porch. It has a timber outbuilding with two rooms, plus a detached one-car garage. It has 3,643 square feet in total.

Complete with marble worktops, the deluxe kitchen blends into the neutral, wood-lined interior.

The house has a UVGI system (which uses UV energy to kill viral, bacterial and fungal organisms) and heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems.

Its gourmet kitchen has appliances by high-end brands Monogram and Miele, while all of its bathrooms have half-heated tiled flooring.

The compound’s outbuilding forms a private art studio and yoga studio. Its one-car garage has storage and is accessed through a pebbled two-car parking space/courtyard. There’s also a heated pool.

Neighborhood Notes

The peninsular seaside town of East Hampton is a chic seaside spot, popular with second-home-owning New Yorkers.

The Miller Lane house is less than half a mile from the town’s supermarket.

“One of the best perks of living at 7 Miller Lane is the easy access to the village. Having two different entryways into the village and under a 10-minute stroll to the local shops, restaurants and movie theater is wonderful. I also love the proximity to the village and town beaches,” Mr. Keyser said.
