Garden Clubs offering scholarships to North Augusta seniors | Community

Students can now apply for the Margaret Weeks Scholarship.

The Margaret Weeks Scholarship is a $500 scholarship made possible by the North Augusta Council of Garden Clubs.

While people think of garden club members as those who encourage others to plant flowers and trees, be advised there is more to these groups. Members of Beech Island Garden Club, Carolina Hills Garden Club, Palmetto Garden Club, and Terrace Garden Club have promoted projects which have provided the funds which go to making this scholarship available.

In keeping with the goals of the National Garden Club, The Garden Club of South Carolina, Inc, and the North Augusta Council of Garden Clubs, applicants for this award should be able to demonstrate an interest in horticulture, landscape design, environmental concerns and/or city planning.

To qualify for the Margaret Weeks Scholarship the applicant must currently be a high school senior living in a North Augusta zip code and preparing to enroll as a full time university student for the academic year of 2023-2024.

Applicants need to provide a resume that includes community service, honors, and work experience, a one page essay describing why the applicant deserves this award along with future life plans following graduation, an official transcript prepared by their high school guidance department, three letters of recommendation including from three references (not family members) with one from a school official, and a completed signed application form.

Contact Sandie Duerksen, NA council president at [email protected] or high school guidance departments for more information.

The deadline to apply is March 16.
